The University of Central Florida, commonly referred to as UCF, is a metropolitan public research university in Orlando, which is a city in the central region of the US state of Florida, the county seat of Orange County, as well as the center of the Greater Orlando Metropolitan area. Orlando was incorporated in 1875, becoming a city in 1885, and it is today known as the 5th largest city by population, which was estimated at a number of more than 230 000 inhabitants, during the 2008 census.
UCF was founded in 1963, on June 10, as Florida Technological University, of which goal was to provide highly trained personnel, to support the Kennedy Space Center, which was located 35 miles, east of the university, being renamed as the University of Central Florida, in 1978.
